Benign Or Malignant Polyp Of The Gall Bladder? How Is It Treated?

Many studies have attempted to clarify which patients and which morphology or characteristics of polyps carry the greatest risk of malignancy.

The size of the polyp, the morphology (if it is flat or papillomatous), the number (single or multiple) and the coexistence of cholelithiasis, diabetes, symptoms, the advanced age of the patient, are all factors that must be taken into account to calculate the risk of malignancy.

In some cases it is recommended to monitor the polyp with ultrasound at 6 months and over time. But this cannot guarantee diagnosis or confirmation of benignity.
Diagnosis
Surgical removal of the gallbladder (cholecystectomy) and biopsy are the ones that will give the final diagnosis.
The surgery of choice is laparoscopic cholecystectomy which is performed through very small incisions in the skin, a few millimeters long.
