1 Year Of Successful Operation For The "Cardiac Innovation Center Pediatric & Adult Cardiac Surgery"

To celebrate the completion of one year of operation, a special event was held on July 15 in the presence of the GeSY Supervisory Commissioner, Mr. Christodoulos Kaisis; the President of the Health Committee of the Parliament, Mr. Efthymios Diplaros; the President of OSAK (Cyprus Federation of Patient Associations), Mr. Marios Kouloumas; and other important personalities from the medical field.

The Cardiac Innovation Center Pediatric & Adult Cardiac Surgery of Apollonion Private Hospital, thanks to its highly trained medical staff and state-of-the-art medical technology equipment, offers high-level services even in cases that until recently were addressed to hospitals abroad and, in only one year, has achieved the following:

• The performance of 215 cardiac surgeries. Among them more than 50 complex operations on children and adult patients with congenital heart defects, among them two children from Romania. All these patients would be operated abroad.
• The performance of minimally invasive cardiac surgeries, which are less painful and offer faster recovery
• The significant reduction of the waiting line for patients

It is noted that, following an agreement with the Health Insurance Organization, all pediatric cardiac surgery operations as well as all adult operations performed at the "Cardiac Innovation Center Pediatric & Adult Cardiac Surgery" are covered by the NHS.
During the first year of operation of the "Cardiac Innovation Center Pediatric & Adult Cardiac Surgery" at Apollonion Private Hospital, the first operations for complex congenital heart defects, the first pulmonary valve operations, the first mitral valve repairs in a minimally invasive way (without opening of the chest, through a small incision between the ribs), coronary bypass surgeries without the use of extracorporeal circulation (off pump bypass), blood saving techniques, took place. The results are comparable to large hospitals abroad.
